The Charleston Police Department arrested a suspect within minutes of being dispatched to a burglary alarm on King Street.
On December 23, 2024, at 6:14 a.m. officers were dispatched to Croghan’s Jewel Box at 308 King Street for a burglary alarm. Responding officers saw a broken window to the business and immediately started canvassing the area. Less than 10 minutes later, an officer observed a male on King Street wearing a ski mask and carrying a bookbag. After a foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended. Officers discovered a hammer in the suspect’s possession and also recovered items stolen from the store.
Detectives charged the suspect, who is a 17-year-old from Ladson with 2nd degree burglary (violent), and possession of tools to commit a crime. Additionally, detectives determined that the suspect committed a car break-in on December 18, in the 500 block of King Street. He is also charged with theft from a motor vehicle and petit larceny.
The suspect is in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
