The Charleston Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the July 5th homicide that occurred at the Bridgeview Apartments.
On July 5, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., an officer patrolling the Bridgeview Apartment complex reported hearing multiple gunshots. Additional officers responded and discovered three victims who had been struck by gunfire. One of the victims, later identified as Brian Fokes, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other two victims were transported to local hospitals and have since been released.
During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Ryan D’Lorenzo Lewis (30, of Charleston). Lewis was taken into custody in Decatur, Georgia, by the Atlanta Area US Marshals on August 1, 2024.
Lewis is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, first degree assault and battery, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, and two counts of attempted murder. Lewis was released from the SC Department of Corrections on May 1, 2024, and is under the supervision of SC Probation, Pardon, and Parole for armed robbery.
This arrest marks the clearance of all homicides that have occurred within the city of Charleston in 2024. These arrests were made possible by the support, cooperation, and trust of our community members and officers who are committed to making this city a safe place for everyone.
