Charleston Police Urging Patience During Busy Travel Season

CPD Newsroom Posted on December 18, 2024

The Charleston Police Department is urging drivers to be patient and prioritize safety on the roadways this holiday season. On October 3, 2024, Charleston Police Officers responded to a fatal shooting on Savannah Highway that detectives believe started as road rage. Since the shooting in October, Charleston Police have responded to four separate incidents of road rage in which a firearm was involved.

On December 16, Shawn Patrick Delacy (41, of Charleston) was charged with pointing a firearm at a person. His charges stemmed from a road rage encounter on December 3, on Savannah Highway.

On December 14, Jennifer Annette Baker Brown (44, of Charleston) was charged with assault and battery first degree for presenting a firearm during a road rage incident in a restaurant parking lot on Savannah Highway.

On December 10, officers responded to a report of an individual pointing a firearm at a victim during a road rage incident on Interstate 526. This case is still under investigation.

On November 30, officers responded to a report of shots being fired into a vehicle during a road rage incident on Paul Cantrell Boulevard near Interstate 526. No injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation.

The Charleston Police Department encourages everyone to prioritize safety, patience, and courtesy on the road this holiday season. A moment of calm can prevent a lifetime of regret. If you encounter an aggressive driver or feel unsafe, avoid confrontation and call 911 immediately. We can work together to assure our roadways remain safe for all.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents mentioned above is encouraged to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and ask for the on-duty Central Detective, or submit a tip online at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.
