The Charleston Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is seeking help locating the car involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred on January 6, 2026, just before 7 p.m., on the Ashley River Bridge heading into downtown Charleston.
Officers learned that a bicyclist was traveling in the roadway on the bridge when they were struck by a vehicle. The vehicle fled following the collision and the victim died at the scene. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Sherif Mahmoud (36, of Egypt).
Investigators are attempting to locate a black or dark blue 2011-2015 Lincoln MKX. The vehicle will have front-end damage including missing pieces of the front bumper, particularly in the area highlighted in the accompanying photo. The vehicle’s last known location was the exit ramp to Lockwood Drive towards Bee Street in downtown Charleston.
