Charleston Police Arrest Suspect After James Island Shooting

Officers with the Charleston Police Department have arrested a suspect following a shooting that occurred in the front yard of a residence on December 21, 2025, around 2:15 p.m. 

Officers were dispatched to a shooting on Seacroft Road near Woodview Lane and located an adult victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive. 

Detectives learned that the victim and suspect are related, and that the suspect shot the victim during an argument outside the residence.

Following the investigation, detectives charged Harold Alvin Champainge with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
  • Possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime

 

Champainge was arrested December 22, 2025, and is in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
