The Charleston Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at the MAA Westchase apartment complex in West Ashley.
On March 29, 2025, shortly before 4 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check requested by the North Charleston Police Department. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased individual who appeared to be the victim of a violent assault.
Following an investigation, detectives arrested Jayme Ryan McKinney (44, of Charleston) the same day. After receiving treatment for an unrelated medical issue, McKinney was taken into custody and charged with murder on April 1, 2025. He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The victim’s name will be released by the coroner’s office at the appropriate time. Detectives confirmed that McKinney and the victim were in a relationship.
