
Charleston Police Announce Next Public Information Officer
Charleston, S.C. - Charleston Police are pleased to announce the selection of their next Public Information Officer, Sergeant Anthony Gibson.
Most recently, Sergeant Gibson served as the Recruitment, Selection, and Retention supervisor, where he gained valuable insights into the various aspects of CPD. He has additionally held positions in Patrol, Police Training Officer, Team Investigations, Property and Persons Crimes Investigations, and worked as a Patrol Sergeant, all of which have provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the operational aspects of CPD.
Sergeant Gibson also served as a Crisis Negotiation Team Member, demonstrating his ability to handle high-pressure situations and effectively communicate in critical incidents.
Sergeant Gibson is a recognized authority in the field of police hiring and selection models. He has been published in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal and has contributed to a wide variety of media publications. He has also been invited to present on this topic around the nation, showcasing his expertise as a leading practitioner.
Sergeant Gibson has been recognized as a National Institute of Justice LEADS Scholar and a National Policing Institute Fellow. These prestigious appointments speak to his commitment to professional development and staying at the forefront of advancements in law enforcement.
A recipient of a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and a Master’s degree in public administration, Sergeant Gibson also serves as an Executive Board member on the American Society of Evidence-Based Policing, and he is a research contributor on the Police Staffing Observatory.

Sergeant Gibson will officially begin in his new role on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
