Charleston Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Collision on SC-61 N Off-Ramp of Fielding Connector     

 

Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist which took place on April 23, 2023, at 6:44 p.m. on the SC-61 North off-ramp of the Fielding Connector. 

 

A motorcyclist was riding on the elevated SC-61 North off-ramp of the Fielding Connector toward SC-61 and Wesley Drive. The motorcyclist apparently lost control, causing herself and the motorcycle to fall from the overpass onto the road below.

Three nurses driving into work saw the motorcyclist and stopped to render aid until EMS arrived. EMS transported the victim to MUSC, where she succumbed to her injuries a short time later. MAIT investigators closed the Fielding Connector northbound at Ripley Point Drive and the SC-61 South connection toward US-17 North while they completed their investigation. The road was reopened at 10:50 p.m.


This fatal collision remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.

This fatal collision is the seventh (7th) fatal collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2023.
