
Charleston Police Announce Arrest in Publix Homicide Investigation
Charleston, S.C. - Charleston Police announced an arrest in a shooting that left 34-year-old Hadden Smith dead in the parking lot of a West Ashley Publix grocery store on April 8, 2023.
Ticara Ya’nae Bolden, 22, of Summerville, was taken into custody yesterday, April 11, by CPD officers and Dorchester County Sheriff’s Deputies. She is charged with one count of Murder, Armed Robbery, and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Bolden is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center and is scheduled for a bond hearing today, April 12, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
On April 8, 2023, at 8:20 a.m., a Charleston Police patrol officer was completing paperwork behind the Publix grocery store at 1401 Sam Rittenberg Blvd when he heard gunshots. He immediately began to search for the source of the gunshots. Around the same time, Consolidated Dispatch received a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting gunshots in the same general area. An area search by patrol officers located an injured male lying on the pavement near the Publix grocery store. CPD officers rendered aid to the victim until EMS arrived. Upon arrival, EMS pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The male appeared to have suffered an apparent gunshot wound.
The ensuing investigation by Charleston Police detectives led to identifying Bolden as the shooting suspect.
