
Charleston Police Announce Arrest in April 5 Shooting
Charleston, S.C. - Charleston Police announced an arrest in a shooting that left one man injured by gunfire on April 5, 2023, on Wilson Street in downtown Charleston.
Joseph Tolbert, 18, of North Charleston, was taken into custody yesterday, April 6, by CPD officers and detectives with the assistance of North Charleston Police officers. He is charged with one count of Attempted Murder.
Tolbert is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center and is scheduled to have a bond hearing today, April 7, 2023, at 10 a.m.
On April 5, 2023, at 5:30 p.m., Charleston Police officers responded to the area of 5 Wilson Street in downtown Charleston, in reference to a shooting. When the officers arrived, they located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Charleston County EMS responded and transported the victim to MUSC, where he was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The ensuing investigation by Charleston Police detectives led to identifying Tolbert as the shooting suspect.
