Charleston Police Investigate Fatal Collision on Interstate 26 
Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and motor vehicle which took place on March 8, 2023, at 7:22 p.m. on Interstate 26 eastbound near the 221-mile marker. 
A Toyota Highlander was traveling eastbound on Interstate 26, approaching the Meeting Street exit, when it struck a pedestrian on the highway. First responders arrived at the scene, where the male pedestrian was located and pronounced deceased.

 

The driver of the involved vehicle cooperated with investigators and showed no signs of impairment. MAIT investigators closed the interstate while they processed the scene and investigated. The road was reopened at 2:40 a.m.

 

This fatal collision remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased.

This is the fifth (5th) fatal collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2023.
