
Charleston Police Respond to Homicide, Make Arrest
Charleston, S.C. - Charleston Police announced an arrest in a shooting that left one dead on Reid Street between Drake and East Bay Streets in downtown Charleston.
Wayne McNeil, 29, of Charleston, was taken into custody by CPD officers responding to the scene. He is charged with one count of Murder and one count of Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
McNeil is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center and is scheduled to have a bond hearing on March 3, 2023, at 2 p.m.
Today, at 12:05 p.m., CPD officers responded to Reid Street between Drake and East Bay Streets in reference to a shooting. On arrival, they located a man injured by gunfire. The officers set a scene perimeter and began canvassing the area. Officers located McNeil a short distance away from the scene and took him into custody. They also recovered a gun near the location. Charleston County EMS transported the victim to MUSC where he was pronounced deceased.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the decedent.
