[ARCHIVED] Charleston Police Arrest Suspect in Fatal Savannah Highway Shooting

Charleston, SC – The Charleston Police Department has arrested the suspect in connection with the fatal shooting on Savannah Highway.  

On October 3, 2024, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Charleston Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the northbound lanes of Savannah Highway near the intersection of Bees Ferry Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a work van near the side of the road. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the van, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect(s) fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

This afternoon, Samuel Antonio Cooper (26, of Savannah, GA) was arrested in Savannah, Georgia. He is charged with murder and is currently in custody in Georgia pending extradition.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office at the appropriate time.
