The owner should first contact Floodplain Management to evaluate the existing site considerations as well as the owner’s interests.
An elevation project should consider multiple factors including cost, foundation type, structure type, historical significance and location, BAR requirements, Floodplain Building Codes and flood history of the site, Zoning requirements, and soil condition (i.e. helical pilings). Funding sources, such as FEMA Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) coverage, may be available to owners undertaking an elevation project.
