KCB works with the Parks Department to help install recycling bins in City parks. The goal is to reduce the amount of waste & litter generated within City parks, and increase the amount of recycling diverted from landfills. The City of Charleston's Department of Parks maintains and empties these bins. The materials are taken to Charleston County drop-sites for recycling. Keep Charleston Beautiful continues to expand the recycling initiatives in our City parks via the installation of new recycling receptacles each year. Grant funding from Keep America Beautiful and its corporate partnerships has provided support for the expansion of this program.
In 2023, Keep Charleston Beautiful plans to work with the City's Sustainability Division to expand this program. It is hoped that grant funding will support the installation of new recycling receptacles and the addition of new labeled lids and educational signage.
