Lock Operating Tips & Solutions

We get it, everyone's hand strength and eyesight are different! To foster an inclusive culture, we aim to offer a variety of locks at each site since different locks work better for different people. However, we’re always looking for ways to make it easier for everyone, so we’ll continue exploring better options.  The lock code remains the same. If you’re having issues, please view the tips below or reach our to your local maintenance team for assistance or to report a broken lock.

Disecu Lock: Most are black, some are red, gold or other colors.  The code aligns easily in the center, a big improvement over the gold lock.  However it does need a firm tug to open it. This is the new standard as we phase out older locks due to its increased durability and ease of the centered lock code, however we are still looking for even better locks!

Push Button Black Lock: Simply align the code in the center, then press the square button on one side—it pops open effortlessly, no need for a firm tug!

The "OG" Black Lock: The code aligns on the right side where there’s a yellow highlight. Start with the first number at the top, and ensure the numbers are in a perfectly straight vertical line.  This lock works well for most people, but is not very durable, breaking easy.  It is also hard to relock because you have to close the lock and then rearrange the numbers so it remains locked.

Gold Lock: Being phased out. The code aligns at the top line (NOT THE MIDDLE), which has been confusing for many. Use as directed until replaced in all locations.  This lock also sometimes needs a firm tug as it nears it's end of useful life.
