[ARCHIVED] City of Charleston August 3 Isaias 10 PM Update

With a late course and speed change having spared the area from the worst of Hurricane Isaias’s impacts, the city of Charleston stood down its virtual Municipal Emergency Operations Center at 8 o’clock tonight.

The city’s Police, Fire and Traffic and Transportation Departments will continue to work throughout the night to respond to any issues that may arise.

While the worst of the storm is past the city, citizens are urged to continue to use caution as standing water may remain into the night and there may be downed power lines, trees and debris that have yet to be reported or cleared.

City crews will begin conducting damage assessments in the morning.

Citizens who parked their vehicles in the free city parking garages are reminded to remove their vehicles by 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg said, "We’re thankful that we appear to have avoided the worst of Isaias’s impacts here in Charleston, and praying for all those still in its path. I’d like to thank our citizens for their cooperation and patience as the storm approached, and our outstanding city staff for all their efforts to prepare our city in a responsible, socially-distanced manner -- efforts that will serve us well the next time severe weather is headed our way."
