[ARCHIVED] Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Police Department Forensic Services Division Building

CPD Forensics Services Division Building Rendering

Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg, members of City Council, Police Chief Luther Reynolds and Parks Director Jason Kronsberg broke ground Wednesday on the Charleston Police Department Forensic Services Division Building at 1975 Bees Ferry Road. 

The $12 million new facility will be two-stories, 22,000 square feet and is slated to be completed in 2021. It will feature:

  • Administration spaces.
  • Evidence receiving, and evidence and file storage rooms.
  • Office and analysis spaces for crime scene processing, latent prints and digital evidence.
  • Two garage bays for vehicle examination and storage.
  • Chemical storage room.
  • Chemistry laboratory and office space.
  • Biology and DNA laboratory and office space.

The facility will replace three buildings currently leased and used by the Charleston Police Forensic Services Division.

The CPD Forensic Services Division crime laboratory, accredited by the American National Standards Institute National Accreditation Board, performs crime scene processing and evidence examination.
