[ARCHIVED] POSTPONED: West Ashley Farmers Market Opens Wednesday

The West Ashley Farmers Market, which was scheduled to open today, is cancelled due to the forecast of heavy rain from Tropical Storm Julia. The opening is rescheduled for next Wednesday, September 21, 3:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The farmers market will recur each Wednesday at Ackerman Park from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. through October 26. The evening market will offer residents the opportunity to stop on their way home to buy groceries, enjoy entertainment and connect with friends, family and neighbors.

“I am looking forward to celebrating the opening of the West Ashley Farmers Market. Citizens can come out, support local farmers, buy their fruits and vegetables and have fun! It is going to be a great community asset in West Ashley,” Mayor Tecklenburg said. “We have been working hard to put together a farmers market that will reflect and enhance the West Ashley community. It is our hope that the farmers market will help enliven the surrounding area—much like the downtown farmers market helped with the revitalization of the area around Marion square.”

The West Ashley Farmers Market—produced by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in cooperation with the City of Charleston Parks Department—is dedicated to the support and advocacy of local farmers and growers. The market features fresh seasonal produce and prepared foods from area vendors who source ingredients from nearby farms. A full list of vendors is below.
