The community is invited to the Grand Opening Celebration of Gadsdenboro Park. On Saturday, May 16, 2015, Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. and members of City Council will dedicate the city’s newest park at 4:30 p.m. near the fountain on the Concord Street side of the park.
Following the dedication ceremony, there will be live music by Aaron Firetag & Friends. Throughout the event, the City of Charleston Recreation Department will facilitate pick-up games of lacrosse, bocci ball, corn hole and disc golf. Food trucks and carts will sell food and drinks. There will be face painting and balloon animals for the children. A free yoga class will be taught at 5 p.m.
Gadsdenboro Park is five acres of public space in a portion of the block formed by Calhoun, Laurens, Washington and Concord Streets. The center of the park is a lawn for programmed activities such as soccer and football. The perimeter has outdoor ‘rooms’ for playgrounds, bocce ball, chess tables, and a fountain.
