Group Litter Sweeps

Volunteers at waterfront park following marsh litter sweep

Get Your Group Involved!

Keep Charleston Beautiful needs volunteer groups to help clean up litter in parks, marshes, and along roadways throughout the City of Charleston. We work within areas located in Daniel Island, James Island, Johns Island, the Peninsula, and West Ashley. Keep Charleston Beautiful works with groups of any size and all ages are welcome! We will do our best to help support your community litter sweep, but please be sure to contact us in advance for scheduling.

How to organize a cleanup event:

  1. Pick a cleanup date - Organize a day and time that works best with your volunteers, and then send us an email to let us know about it. We will do our best to provide supplies and be present to coordinate cleanup efforts, although it's possible we may already be booked.  If we can't make it in person, we'll do our best to still get you the supplies you need to make the event happen.
  2. Pick a cleanup location - If you’ve noticed an area with litter, please let us know if you'd like to clean there. If not, Keep Charleston Beautiful can provide suggestions of spots in need.
  3. Finalize volunteer numbers - We need to know how many supply items we'll need to pack, so once you have an idea of how many volunteers will be attending your event, please give us a heads up. We can provide trash bags, disposable gloves, safety vests, pickup sticks, and other supplies as needed.
  4. Share your event with the community - If you'd like, get others in the community involved in your event. You can share information on social media, or go door to door and let local businesses know about the cleanup efforts taking place in their area. They might even offer thank-you incentives for your volunteers, or help out with boots-on-the-ground efforts!

Liability Forms and Safety Sheets

If you are conducting a litter sweep without KCB staff present, please read over our event safety sheet (PDF) and have your volunteers sign our liability waiver (PDF). We want to keep our volunteers safe at cleanups! Also, be sure to report your data back to us following the event.
