Johns Island Recreation and Aquatic Facility

Overview

The City of Charleston is designing its first recreation center on Johns Island to provide residents with modern, accessible, and community-focused recreational opportunities. 

Funded by the 2023 bond referendum, the approximately 50,000-square-foot facility will feature a 25-meter pool, therapy pool, two full-size basketball courts, two full-size volleyball courts, four indoor pickleball courts, a yoga studio, and three dedicated meeting rooms. Outdoor amenities include pickleball courts, a basketball court, a playground, and a splash pad.

Construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026 and conclude in late 2027. The new center aims to enhance health, wellness, and social engagement for the Johns Island community.
