Charleston Police Arrest Suspect in Burglary and Assault

Charleston, SC – The Charleston Police Department has arrested and charged Walter Clayton Pate III (29, of North Charleston) with burglary 1st degree, assault and battery 1st degree, and kidnapping in which he forcibly entered a woman’s home and physically assaulted her on December 10, 2025.

The victim discovered Pate inside her residence early that morning and found him wearing only his underwear. When confronted, Pate physically assaulted her. The victim fought back and was able to get him outside of the home, after which he fled the area.

Detectives, working with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, located and apprehended Pate earlier yesterday evening.
