UPDATE: Murder Charges Filed in NoMo Shooting

CPD Newsroom Posted on November 06, 2025

The Charleston Police Department has charged a suspect in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another injured during the early morning hours of November 1, 2025 at an apartment complex on Morrison Drive.

At approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at the 930 NoMo apartment complex, located at 930 Morrison Drive. When officers arrived, they found one man deceased in a hallway. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified him as Aden Gore.

A second adult male was found with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a local hospital and has since been released.

Through their investigation, detectives determined that Gore and another victim were involved in a fight in a second-floor hallway during a party. During that altercation, Zaire Christopher Nelson (20, of Charleston) fired multiple shots, striking both men. Gore was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other victim, who is acquainted with Nelson, was hit once in the leg.

Witnesses told detectives that Nelson had been displaying a handgun recklessly before the altercation began. After the initial shots were fired, another individual at the party fired multiple rounds in an attempt to defend Gore. No one was struck, and that individual has not been charged at this time.

Nelson is charged with:

  • Murder
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
  • Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature
  • Pointing and presenting a firearm

Charleston Police are aware that the apartment complex houses several College of Charleston students. The department has been in contact with the College of Charleston Department of Public Safety and confirmed that none of the primary individuals involved in this incident are enrolled at the college.

This investigation remains active. Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and ask for the on-duty Central Detective, or submit a tip anonymously at
