The Charleston Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred on I-26 West near mile marker 218 early this morning.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on August 25, officers responded to a motorcycle crash. Investigators determined the rider failed to negotiate a curve, struck a guardrail, and that speed was a contributing factor. The motorcyclist, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased when appropriate. This is the eighth fatal traffic-related collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2025.
