The Charleston Police Department has made multiple arrests following an investigation into a series of vehicle-related property crimes in the Johns Island area.
The investigation began during the overnight hours of February 25, when multiple residents on Fontana Street reported that an unknown individual had entered or attempted to enter their vehicles. One victim reported a stolen checkbook, which was later used in an attempt to cash a fraudulent check at South State Bank, located at 1185 Folly Road.
Detectives identified and arrested two suspects in connection with the incidents:
- Zachary Louis Longman (34, of James Island) was taken into custody near the bank and identified as one of the individuals attempting to cash the forged check. He is charged with crimes against a federally chartered financial institution and remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center. Longman is currently under the supervision of the SC Department of Probation, Pardon, and Parole.
- Sean Michael O’Neal (36, of Johns Island) was identified as the second suspect at the bank and was also found to be responsible for multiple car break-ins and attempted break-ins on Fontana Street. He was arrested on March 5, 2025, and is charged with crimes against a federally chartered financial institution, two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, two counts of property crime enhancement, and three counts of tampering with a motor vehicle. O’Neal remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center and is also under supervision for previous motor vehicle break-in offenses.
These incidents serve as an important reminder to secure vehicles and remove valuables to prevent theft. The Charleston Police Department urges residents to lock their car doors and report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
