Charleston Police Investigate Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision on Savannah Highway

The Charleston Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a fatal collision that occurred on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at approximately 4:50 a.m. on Savannah Highway near Bonanza Road.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a Toyota van was traveling southbound on Savannah Highway when the driver lost control, veered off the roadway to the right, and struck a tree. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Savannah Highway was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.

This collision remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased when appropriate.

This marks the second traffic-related fatality investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2025.
