The Charleston Police Department has made an arrest for a robbery that occurred at Skatell’s Manufacturing Jewelers at 821 Orleans Road.
Officers were dispatched to the robbery at 10:38 a.m. where store employees reported that an individual entered the store, brandished a firearm and stole several pieces of jewelry. During the robbery, the employees were restrained with zip ties.
Shortly after 1 p.m. the suspect’s car was located in North Charleston, and after a vehicle pursuit involving the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the North Charleston Police Department, the suspect was arrested. Detectives charged James Dexter King (52, of Charleston) with armed robbery, and four counts of kidnapping.
During the investigation, it was also determined that King was involved in a previous armed robbery at the Pierpoint Coin Laundry located at 2325 Ashley River Road. The robbery occurred on November 21, 2024, shortly after 8 p.m. During the robbery, King presented a firearm, stole money, and assaulted an individual inside the business. As a result of this incident, King is also charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.
Chief Chito Walker said, “This is an excellent example of our local public safety partners working together to quickly get an extremely dangerous criminal off our streets.”
