Pedestrian From Earlier Collision Has Died

The Charleston Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating a collision that occurred on January 12, 2026, just after 8 p.m., on Ashley River Road near Wallace School Road. 

 Officers learned that a pedestrian was attempting to cross Ashley River Road when they were struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries and died days later. 

 The vehicle stopped immediately and remained at the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours and reopened around 11 p.m. 

 Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and ask for the on-duty Central Detective. Tips can be submitted anonymously at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.

This is the second fatal traffic-related collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2026.
