Trio Arrested in Series of Vehicle Break-ins and Thefts in West Ashley

CPD Newsroom Posted on October 08, 2025

The Charleston Police Department has arrested three suspects following an investigation into a series of vehicle break-ins and motor vehicle thefts in the West Ashley area.

The investigation began during the overnight hours of September 11, when several callers reported a heavily damaged vehicle being driven through the Grand Oaks neighborhood. Officers later found the damaged Lincoln MKC abandoned on Ashley Garden Boulevard and determined it had been stolen earlier that evening from N. Woodmere Drive. Officers located a license plate inside the Lincoln that was stolen from a vehicle on Hainesworth Drive.

After abandoning the damaged Lincoln, the suspects remained in the Grand Oaks area, where they broke into another vehicle on Ashley Garden Boulevard before stealing a Ford F-250 from Cabrill Drive.

Detectives recovered both stolen vehicles and identified three suspects connected to the incidents. All have been arrested and charged as follows:

  • Caleb Thomas Reser (20, of Summerville) – Charged with two counts of grand larceny ($10,000 or more) and one count of breaking into a motor vehicle. Reser was arrested on September 11 and remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
  • 17-year-old male (of Charleston) – Charged with two counts of grand larceny ($10,000 or more), breaking into a motor vehicle, and petit larceny. He was placed in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice on October 2.
  • Cherry Josephine Foy (18, of Charleston) – Charged with grand larceny ($10,000 or more). She was arrested on September 17, 2025, and has since been released from the Al Cannon Detention Center.

The Charleston Police Department thanks the residents who provided video evidence and promptly reported suspicious activity, which played a key role in these arrests.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles, remove valuables, and continue reporting any suspicious activity to the department.
