Police Seek Public’s Help Following West Ashley Shooting

CPD Newsroom Posted on July 28, 2025

Detectives with the Charleston Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects responsible for the shooting of an adult and a thirteen-year-old at the Ashley Oaks Apartments located at 78 Ashley Hall Plantation Road, in West Ashley.

On July 19, 2025, at around 2:30 a.m. officers responded to the complex for reports of gunfire. Detectives determined that the adult victim was outside an apartment when they sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The second victim, a thirteen-year-old, was struck and injured while playing video games inside a nearby apartment. Both victims were treated and released at a local hospital.

Detectives believe the juvenile was not involved and not the intended target of the gunfire.

CPD Detectives are actively working to solve this case and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and request to speak with the on-duty Central Detective. Information may also be submitted anonymously online at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips
