The Charleston Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning on Tripe Street in West Ashley.
On January 10, 2026, at around 12:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to a report of gunfire on Tripe Street. Officers located a car in the roadway with a deceased victim inside. The victim was shot multiple times.
At this stage of the investigation, detectives believe the victim was specifically targeted. There is no indication that this was a random act of violence.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name when appropriate.
Detectives are working diligently to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The Special Operations Division also executed a search warrant at a residence on Tripe Street as part of their investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
