The Charleston Police Department is proud to announce that two of its officers have been recognized for their outstanding service to the community.
The Charleston Rotary Club has named Officer Alexis Bosier as its Officer of the Year, and the Knights of Columbus have honored Officer Cameron Thomakos with their Officer of the Year award.
Throughout the year, Officer Thomakos has exemplified courage, compassion, intelligence, and dedication to duty. He helped evacuate residents during a rapidly spreading apartment fire, carrying a baby to safety while the family followed behind him. He was recognized for safely deescalating a situation involving an armed individual in mental health crisis and for reuniting a lost child with their family after the child wandered from a hotel room in the middle of the night. Officer Thomakos has also played a key role in apprehending individuals involved in vehicle break-ins and thefts, and in removing unlawfully possessed guns and dangerous drugs from city streets.
Officer Bosier was honored for her exceptional community engagement and service. As a member of the Community Outreach Bicycle Unit, she has built strong and lasting relationships with Charleston residents through trust, compassion, and a consistent presence in the community. Officer Bosier is known for going above and beyond to meet the needs of those she serves, often using her own resources to help people in crisis. In one notable example, during a call in a local neighborhood, she encountered a young child wearing shoes that were too small and causing bruising. Without hesitation, she purchased new shoes and clothing for the child, their brother, and their baby sibling, an act that reflects her genuine care and commitment to others.
These officers have demonstrated excellent values and remarkable service to our community.
