Officers Track Stolen AirPods to Catch Car-Break-in Suspect

The Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspect for multiple car break-ins in the South of Broad neighborhood in downtown Charleston. 

On September 20, 2025, around 8:00 a.m., officers responded to a reported car break-in on Gibbes Street near Lenwood Boulevard. While investigating, they discovered additional victims in the area who reported their vehicles had also been broken into overnight. After reviewing video footage from local residents and tracking a set of stolen AirPods, officers located the suspect nearby. They discovered a stolen Rolex watch on the suspect’s wrist and recovered a bookbag containing additional property, including the tracked AirPods, all reported stolen in the nearby car break-ins. 

Following an investigation, Shaoquna Rishen Williams (29, of Charleston) is facing the following charges:  

  • Receiving stolen goods greater than $10,000 (property crime enhancement)
  • Two counts of receiving stolen goods less than $2,000 (property crime enhancement)
  • Three counts of breaking into motor vehicles
  • One count of tampering with a vehicle

 Williams is currently in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center. Williams was under the supervision of SC Probation, Parole and Pardon Services at the time of this incident for property related offenses.

  • Property Crime Enhancement (SC Code 16-1-57) elevates certain property crimes to a felony for offenders who have at least two prior convictions of a recognized property crime.
