Police Arrest Suspect Following James Island Homicide

The Charleston Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday, June 8, 2025, on Ferguson Road in James Island.

Shortly before 8:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of Ferguson Road and Danny Street. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound.

Officers located the suspect nearby and took him into custody without incident. 

Following their investigation, detectives charged Raymundo Markal Vasquez (30, of Charleston) with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Detectives have determined that Vasquez and the victim were related and that the incident began as an argument that escalated into gunfire.
