Charleston, SC - The Charleston Police Department has released its 2024 Annual Report to provide an overview of the department’s operations, initiatives, and performance over the past year.
The report outlines key data and developments across the department, provides information about crime trends, staffing, training, and community engagement efforts. It also highlights the department’s focus areas and progress toward long-term public safety goals.
“This report is more than numbers and programs. It’s a snapshot of the work our team puts in every single day,” said Chief Chito Walker. “From reducing crime to expanding community outreach and our operations, we’re proud of what we accomplished in 2024 and even more focused on what’s ahead.”
Highlights from the 2024 report include:
- A 10.7% drop in overall crime citywide
- 47 new officers hired, with an emphasis on competitive outreach and evidence-based recruitment initiatives
- Expansion of Police Corps training and launch of a new Executive Leadership Summit
- Stronger connections with youth and the Hispanic community through dedicated outreach staff
- Major progress toward launching CPD’s in-house DNA testing lab
- Recognition from MADD South Carolina for outstanding DUI enforcement
- A coordinated hurricane relief effort that sent CPD officers to assist communities in North Carolina
