The Charleston Police Department is investigating the death of a suspect who barricaded himself inside his home and later suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a reported road rage shooting on February 28, 2025.
Just after 2 p.m., officers responded to the area of King Street and Huger Street after receiving reports that a motorcyclist had fired multiple rounds at a vehicle in an apparent act of road rage. Fortunately, no one was struck by gunfire.
As the investigation progressed, detectives identified the suspect and located his residence on Cypress Branch Court in West Ashley. While officers were actively working the incident, they received a call from an individual familiar with the suspect, reporting that he was threatening self-harm.
In response, officers, along with members of the Special Operations Division, including the Crisis Negotiation Team, responded to the residence on Cypress Branch Court in West Ashley, prompting several road closures in the area. The suspect barricaded himself inside the home and refused to exit. While on scene, officers heard a single gunshot and discovered the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers and Charleston Fire Department personnel immediately provided lifesaving measures before EMS transported him to a local hospital in critical condition. The suspect later succumbed to his injuries.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the suspect’s identity when appropriate.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and request to speak with the on-duty Central Detective or submit a tip online at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.
