Discovery of Skeletal Remains Prompts Police to Seek Help From Community

The Charleston Police Department is requesting assistance in a homicide investigation. 

On March 4, 2025 the skeletal remains of Everett Lee Stover were located in the back yard of a vacant Lee Street house in downtown Charleston. Detectives determined that Mr. Stover died sometime after October 1, 2024 and that he was the victim of a violent assault.

Mr. Stover has lived in Charleston most of his life. Family and friends of Mr. Stover shared that he struggled with addiction after being partially crushed by a forklift.

Detectives are interested in speaking with three known associates of Mr. Stover. If you know the whereabouts of Michael James Snell (49 of California), Jerry Alvin Jones Jr. (43 of North Carolina), Barbara Crystall Surrett (37 of North Carolina) please contact CPD. 

The attack on Mr. Stover was a brutal and senseless crime.
