Notification is hereby given to the public of the intent of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide assistance to the City of Charleston, SC, for the repair of the floating boardwalk system located at Melton Peter Demetre Park (DR-4286 PW 874) in Charleston County, South Carolina, which was damaged in the recent major disaster declared as a result of widespread rain and extensive flooding.
Due to its location, this project is susceptible to future damages from flooding. Under the President’s Executive Order 11988, Floodplain Management, FEMA is required to review the restoration of these facilities for opportunities to relocate it out of the floodplain or to minimize future damage from flooding. Public comment is invited on possible alternatives to these actions, methods to protect this facility and on whether this facility should be restored at all.
Interested persons may obtain information about this action and its specific location by contacting Wes Chappell between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Comments about this project and the application of the Floodplain Management Executive Order to it should be submitted in writing to Wes Chappell at chappellw@charleston-sc.gov by June 21, 2022. This public notice will also serve as the final public notice provided there are no questions or concerns regarding this project.
