Charleston has a rich history of supporting local farmers and crops of significance. Farmers markets and urban gardens have flourished in the City in the past few years. 

The City of Charleston manages two seasonal Farmers Markets, one in West Ashley at Ackerman Park, and one on the peninsula at Marion Square.

The City of Charleston partners with the Charleston Parks Conservancy which manages a Community Gardening Program with publicly accessible urban gardens located around the City, including: James Island, West Ashley, and the Peninsula.
