Upgrades to Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool Delayed; Facility to Remain Open Temporarily

Due to the appointment of a new project manager by the outside contractor, Johnson Controls, upgrades to the City of Charleston’s Martin Luther King, Jr. pool have been delayed, and the pool will remain open until a new timeline for the project can be determined.

Originally scheduled to begin tomorrow, the project will transform the Martin Luther King, Jr. community pool with the construction of a four-season structure that will provide open-air circulation in the summer months and allow for temperature and humidity control in the winter. The planned work on the pool will provide a safer and more comfortable swimming environment while reducing energy needs and promoting a more sustainable asset for the City of Charleston.

City of Charleston Director of Parks, Jason Kronsberg, said, “Johnson Controls understands how important the Martin Luther King, Jr. pool is to Charleston’s swimming programs and will move very quickly to get the project back on schedule in order to minimize the impact to the users of the pool.”
