The city of Charleston Business & Neighborhood Services Division will host a ‘Local Government 101’ event designed to provide citizens with a comprehensive understanding of city operations on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the first floor Public Meeting Room at the Gaillard Center, located at 2 George Street.
During the event, attendees will hear from senior-level staff representing each of the city’s departments about their respective goals, responsibilities and functions.
Meg Thompson, the city’s Director of Business & Neighborhood Services, said, "We’re always looking for ways to increase transparency and expand citizens’ access to city government, and this event is a great example. Our hope is that attendees will walk away feeling empowered to take on an active role in city affairs and with a greater understand of how every department – from Recreation to Stormwater – works to improve their quality of life.”
Attendance at the event is free, but registration is encouraged as space is limited. Those interested in attending are asked to reserve their spot here.
In addition to the scheduled presentations, light refreshments will also be provided.
