Charleston Police Explorers Receive Multiple Awards Enforcement Competition

Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Police Department announced their Explorer Post 11 received several awards in a multi-state competition held during the week of July 24th through July 29th.

Members of the Charleston Police Department’s Police Explorer Post 11 attended the South Carolina Association of Law Enforcement Explorers (SCALE) Competition hosted by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in Lexington, South Carolina. The competition was attended by over 12 law enforcement agencies from two different states.

The CPD Explorers were awarded: 1st place in Felony Arrest Warrant/Building Clearing, 2nd place in Active Shooter Response, 3rd place in High-Risk Traffic Stop/Pursuit, and 3rd place in Crime Scene. Additionally, Explorer Jaxon Cerneka placed 1st in the Physical Ability Test.

This annual competition allows the Police Explorers to take part in various types of simulated scenarios and incidents that a law enforcement officer might encounter in the line of duty. The scenarios and incidents include topics such as felony arrest warrant service/building clearing, verbal disturbance/property dispute, pursuits, high-risk traffic stop, building search, unknown risk traffic stop, domestic violence response, crime scene response, and drug search warrant.

The Charleston Police Department Police Explorer Post 11 is a hands-on program open to young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21 who are interested in a career in law enforcement or other related fields. Our Explorers conduct training in law enforcement matters, compete at least twice per year against other law enforcement agencies, participate in ride-a-longs, take part in community events, and more. The Police Explorer Program promotes personal growth through character development, physical fitness, good citizenship, service to others, and patriotism. These skills follow our Explorers through life, whether they choose a career in law enforcement or not.

If you, or anyone you know between the ages of 14-21, is interested in joining the CPD Police Explorer program, please contact us at or call (843) 720-2522.
