Charleston Police Investigate Fatal Hit and Run Collision on King Street Ext 

 

Charleston, S.C. - The Charleston Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the area of King Street Extension and Discher Street on July 1st around 7:22 am to investigate an auto-pedestrian collision that resulted in fatal injuries to the pedestrian. The collision occurred in the early-morning hours, but the driver nor the vehicle remained at the scene.


Investigators believe a silver sedan was involved, and the vehicle will have front-passenger side damage consistent with a pedestrian collision.   


MAIT investigators closed King Street Extension in both directions at Discher Street while they completed their investigation. The roadway was reopened at noon.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased. 

 

This is the tenth (10th) fatal collision investigated by the Charleston Police Department in 2023.

  • Vehicle versus Pedestrian – 5
  • Vehicle versus Vehicle – 3
  • Single Motorcycle - 2

CPD investigated six (6) traffic-related fatalities at this time in 2022.
