Follow along and contribute to the representation, commemoration, and celebration of Black History Month with the City of Charleston Recreation Department! We will post activities, lessons, projects, and resources every other day on our webpage and Facebook page for families to learn and create together. We have a Virtual Art contest where you can submit artwork you create that reflects Black culture and what this month stands for. Additionally, send us talent of yours with a brief video of dancing, singing, reading poetry, drumming or being creative in any visual way. See below for more details.

Black History Month Virtual Art Contest

Draw, paint, color, sculpt or create a piece of art that represents, commemorates, or celebrates Black History Month.

The contest will be accepting submissions in-person at any recreation facility, via email to Bethany Doman at domanb@charleston-sc.gov or through Google Forms.

SUBMIT ARTWORK

Submissions will be divided into age groups and voted on by the Mayor and a Recreation Department team. Submissions are due by Friday, February 12 at 5pm. Winners will be announced on Monday, February 22 and prizes will be awarded.
