Youth Afterschool Programs

Backpack Journalists
Join Linda Dennis and the Backpack Journalists on Mondays at SJDCC from 3:45-5:30pm. This program teaches kids about photography, interviewing, writing, producing, and so much more! Backpack Journalists also meet on Wednesdays at AWCCC and Fridays at BLRC (WA). For more information, view our flyer!

Afterschool Program
We assist children who need help with their homework and also have sports, crafts and other fun activities. Afterschool is available Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 6pm for ages 5-12. $30 per term per child.

Basic Drawing
Children ages 10-15 can attend this program and learn to draw from still life and photographs. Participants will gain an understanding of techniques using pencils, charcoal, and pastels. This drawing course takes place on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:30pm-5:30pm. The cost is $25 per month. 

Kids in the Kitchen
Children will be given the wonderful opportunity to learn about cooking and kitchen safety. They will be instructed on how to make healthy, delicious snacks and will be able to share those recipes at home! Join us on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30pm-5:30pm. This class is free and only for ages 5-12. 

Weight and Fitness Room
Transform yourself by using our weight room. Lose pounds, stay fit. The weight room at St. Julian Devine is available for your convenience. Lockers for rent at $15 per year. The Fitness room is open from 11:20am to 6:30pm from Monday through Friday. It is available for ages 18 and up for $50 per year.

Knitting for Awareness
EP’s Knitting circle meets on Monday nights from 5:30pm-6:30pm at St. Julian Devine Community Center. As a group, we will collaborate to knit a large WAVE to help illustrate the rising waters for the upcoming AWAKENINNNG V: King Tide (May 2017). All levels are welcome and yes we teach novice knitters. We are seeking donations of blue-based yarn (all hues-white, baby blue, teal, turquoise, Indigo, navy, purple) to knit water. 

Come out on Mondays and Fridays from 11:00am-12:00pm to learn the basics: green ware pouring, bisque firing, gloss painting, and stain painting. Ages 20 and older welcome and the cost is $25/month. 

Senior Computer Club
Join us on Fridays from 3:30pm-4:30pm for our new computer class! Open to seniors who wish to improve their computer skills, learn how to produce graphics, and use a digital editing program. The cost is $5.00 per class. 

Senior Book Club
On Fridays from 4:00pm-5:30pm, join us for our new Senior Book Club! Select from a list of contemporary authors, read your chosen book, and then meet once a week for discussion, coffee and cookies.
